In the hotel parking lot where I stayed, there were many bikers.
It was clear that everyone was heading to Sturgis.
We would head south from North Dakota to South Dakota, and enter Sturgis.
Skipping several scenic spots along the way, we kept riding our motorcycles.
Many bikes stopped at an old gas station with no sheltered roofs.
They formed a long line to fill it up.
This road stretched across vast, deserted land.
We rode towards the blue sky, under the huge clouds, and got soaked.
I feel as if we rode on a newborn Earth.
The untouched plains extended endlessly, but the term ‘wild nature’ doesn’t quite capture the essence of this place.
I knew this was called ‘true wilderness’.
After two refuels, we finally arrived at a rented cabin at the foothills of Rushmore Mountain in South Dakota’s Woodland.
This was our base to enjoy the Sturgis Rally.
Everybody looked excited.

泊まったホテルの駐車場には、バイカーがたくさんいた。
みんなスタージスを目指しているのはあきらかだった。
今日は、いよいよ、ノースダコタからサウスダコタへと南下してスタージスに入る。
途中、いくつかあった景勝地をスルーして、ひたすらバイクを走らせた。
屋根もない古いガソリンスタンドには、バイカーが押し寄せ、長い列を作っていた。
見捨てられた広大な土地に道が伸びている。
青空に向かい、大きな雲の下を走り、ずぶ濡れになる。
生まれたての大地を走っているかのようだ。
人の手の入っていない平原がどこまでも続くが、この場所に ”大自然” という言葉は似合わない。
これこそ荒野というのだろう。
２回給油してサウスダコタのウッドランドに到着、ラッシュモアマウンテンの麓の貸別荘にようやく着いた。
ここをベースにスタージスラリーを堪能する。
ワクワクが抑えられない。
