It was cloudy.
We were prepared to get wet as we rode our bikes.
When I reached the main road, it finally started raining.
We had no choice but to take shelter in a nearby factory.
The president of the factory soon understood our situation in such bad weather and warmly welcomed us.
Pat introduced me by saying, “He came from Japan, and we are traveling together; this journey is going to become a magazine article.”
I simply replied, “Yes. I’m an English teacher in Japan, and I will write about our adventure. I’ll contribute my article to the publisher.”
Soon, I realized that Pat gets along with anyone quickly because of his personality.
I feel I need not only English skills but also a sense of humor like him.

今日はパラフレーズ化の練習です。
パラフレーズ化とは、「思いついた日本語を別の表現で言い換えて考えること」です。
英作が難しいとか、思いついたことが離せないと感じてしまうのは、
思いついたことを英語に直訳的にしようとしてしまうことです。
今回は、
言いたいことってどういうことだっけ？って考えて、学校で習ってきた表現で切り抜けみましょう。
※「朝から天気がすぐれない」→「今日は曇りだ」：
It was cloudy. / It has been cloudy since this morning. / today’s weather is bad.
※「覚悟をして～する」→「～する準備をする」と考えて：be prepared to do
※「通りにでる」→「通りに到着する」：reach / met / get onto the main road
※「たまらず」→「やむをえず〜する」→「～するよりしかたがない」
：have no choice but to do ≒ can’t help doing
※「雨宿りをする」take shelter / take refuge だが、
→「雨が止むまでどこかで待つ」と言い換えられれば：
We have to wait somewhere until the rain stops.
※ nearby：「近くの」
※ bad weather weatherは不可算名詞 a bad weather となってないことに注意
※ contribute A to B ：「AをBに寄稿する」
※ get along with：「～と仲良くなる」

全訳
朝から天気がすぐれない。
雨に降られる覚悟をしてバイクにまたがった。
大きな道に出るといよいよ雨が降り出し、たまらず近くの工場に避難した。
工場の社長さんは、すぐに我々バイカーの状況を理解してくれて、我々を快く受け入れてくれた。
「彼は日本から来て一緒に旅しているんだけど、この旅が雑誌の記事なるんだ。」と、パットが紹介してくれた。
「Yes.日本で英語の教師をしています。今回の旅について書いて雑誌に寄稿するつもりなんです。」とこたえました。
気が付いたのですが、性格が良いので、パットはすぐに誰とでも仲良くなることができます。
英語力だけでなく、彼のようなユーモア感覚も必要だと感じました。
